War's Fury by zulumike War's Fury by zulumike
A B-17 bombing mission into the Ruhr Valley of Germany becomes very dangerous as the area is heavily defended by Me-109's and 88 AA's.

Credits:
Me-109 model from www.colacola.se
B-17 model from "Wings of Power" for FSX.
BG sky from mayyang.com

The B-17 had to be "flown" into an inverted flat spin using flight simulator program WOP and FSX, using a Logitect 3D Pro stick.

I used Photoshop, GIMP and Paint.Net for editing.

This is my largest format ever presented at DA. It has been time consuming and a long learning curve using some new Photoshop brushes.

Thanks for Looking. Cheers, Mike

Harsh reality of being a bomber pilot, you might not ever come back. I tip my hat to those men.

I know, several members have told me of the time frame of these model are incorrect. Considered it conceptual work, still it help me move forward with some learning curves of using new brushes and other edit techniques.

These were the only models availabe. I do like to be accurate with my artwork.

Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it.

That is beautiful, only that M109 is an early E model from 39'-40' and those B-17's are also E models from around 42'-43'. Those two models never met in the skies as far as I know.

Thank you so much, appreciate it.

I spent some time researching this subject. Looked at a lot of YouTube B/W WW II footage. The anti-aircraft smoke bursts was hand painted with a custom made brush. I sent about (18) hours on this project.

Stay tuned I am working on when Germans began "ramming" the U.S.bombers toward the end of the war. Thanks again.

Thank You, appreciate it.

I want to tell the story of War II through art.

As my dad was a WW II pilot and I had the privilage of meeting several pilot friends of his. These vets of the "Greatest Generation" are so amazing. They were so young, brave and proud yet they never bragged, they went about about their jobs and forgot about what they accomplished and endured during the war. Lets not forget them.

My family lost men in the first world war and I was fortunate enough not to lose my Grandfather in the second. It ended before he was deployed.

On the 11th I will be doing my part to keep the memory of those who gave up everything alive. I'm playing the trumpet for taps on the 11th hour.

We can never forget that what we have came from the selfless sacrifices of others. Live each day to its fullest, love your loved ones and do something with your life. You owe it to yourself and to those who lay down their lives for you.

I don't dwell on it but at this time of year I do reflect and respect.

The B-17 burning and going down in an inverted flat spin is a composition in itself. This is based on several actual WW II events that I saw on Youtube of WW II footage. Thanks again.

Very nice work, Mike! Anders (Lejczak) has some brilliant models at www.colacola.se. I'd like to do an Eastern Front picture, if anyone would every come out with an accurate Il-2 Shturmovik (are you reading this, Anders?).

Regards,

Learstang

I have saw several friends of mine using his models here at DA.

After seeing Anders Me-109, I could not resist using it in this project. Its the best model and one of my favorite aircrafts. Thanks Anders.

I agree with you about the Shturmovik another favorite of mine.

Thanks for the feedback.

ME-109 good plane till the Allies made faster planes <.>

The 109 still had the maneuverability advantage due to the dive flaps and fuel-injected engine allowing it to pull very high-G maneuvers, not to mention it had a cannon, and the P-51 didn't. Even so, its success was attributed to its pilots, not the plane itself.

Of course: 1 30 mm cannon shell could bring down a fighter, and anywhere from 2 to 4 well-aimed shots could drop a B-17 easily.

The Mustang started to dominate the skies in 1944 with the big V-12 Rolls-Royce Merlin and the USA made Packard-Mirlins and superchargers for high altitude flying.
