The Myasishchev M-4 Molot (Hammer), USAF/DoD reporting name "Type 37". The NATO reporting name 'Bison' is a four-engined strategic bomber designed by Vladimir Myasishchev and manufactured by the Soviet Union in the 1950s to provide a bomber capable of attacking targets in North America. Remember that plane, now it stands in air museum in Zjukovsky airfield. Only one thing - M-4 really is the first step of Soviet long-range program, so it looks more like the prototypes of Tu-160. Just for a bit.

I love the "glass-nose" soviet AC's. They were based on the B-29. The glass-nose was even carried over to their civilian aircraft. They felt that civilian AC's could be carried over to bombers quickly and the glass nose was ready for the navigator and bombardier. In the early days the Soviet Union relied on visible mapreading (VFR)because their radar systems were not the best at the time. Thus the "glass-nose" remained in many of their designs for the navigator and bombadier throughout the years.

Cheers, Mike

Yes, 3M variant, always liked the "spaceship" look.
looks fast.

Never accomplished the mileage/bomb capacity required to bomb the USA and return home. TU-95's replaced these bombers and accomplished the soviet goals.

thanks for the feedback.

Cheers, Mike
