Coffey's War

Lt. Col. Coffey pushes his powerful P-47 back over the coast of Normandy to his airbase at Beaulieu, England to be refueled and loaded with bombs for another mission against the German Wehrmacht. He has completed his first mission and there is more to be done this day.

It is June 6, D-Day, the War for Coffey has begun for the Squadron Leader of the 388th Fighter Squadron of the famed 365th Fighter-Bomber Group (“War Hawks"), 9th Air Force. Today he will be a part of a group of pilots that will destroy over 300 enemy vehicles.

This will be his War for the next 15 months, as the “War Hawks” pursue a relentless campaign to support the GI’s advance toward Berlin. They would be Eisenhower’s “flying artillery” throughout the War.
